How to add a link to your post in WordPress
The WordPress Codex is great for detailed information on how to use WordPress, but it can be a little overwhelming to some users who just want to know how to do simple tasks like adding a hyperlink.
WordPress makes it easy to create posts and pages and make updates to your blog without having to read a huge manual. It’s very intuitive, but sometimes it’s just faster to have someone spell it out. So, here it is…
How To Add a Link in a WordPress Page or Post
From the Page/Post editing window:
Select the text that you want to use for your link.
It is better to use text, and not the actual URL, for your link. It will make it easier for visitors to understand what they’re clicking on and will look better on your pages.
Click the “Insert/Edit Link” icon in the editor menu bar.
The icon looks like a little chain link ( ).
The Insert/Edit Link window will pop up (see right). Fill in the URL field with the full web address of where you want to link. Fill in the Title field with text that describes what you are linking TO. You can use the checkbox to indicate whether to open the link in a new window or not.
Link to a File You Have Uploaded
If you want to link to a file that you have uploaded to WordPress, you will need the full web address of the document. If you don’t know how to upload a document and get the URL, read How To Upload a Document or Image to WordPress first.
Click the ‘Add Link’ button and your link will be added to your post/page.
That’s all folks!
